About Dr. Sander

As a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon and a native of Weslaco, Texas, Michael Sander, MD, understands his responsibility to his patients. At Sander Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Sander uses the latest advancements in orthopaedic medicine to decrease patient pain and improve performance for those in Weslaco and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Sander also specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, treating a variety of sports-related injuries in athletes from all performance levels. He retains an affiliation with Knapp Medical Center and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Weslaco.

Dr. Sander has a passion for helping patients live a healthier, more fulfilling life, and he offers several evidence-based treatment programs to help them regain mobility and functionality. Using a patient-centered approach, Dr. Sander provides a variety of resources to ensure patients can make the most educated choice about their health care.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Sander went on to receive his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. For his surgery residency, Dr. Sander attended the University of Iowa Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation before completing his orthopaedic sports fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

At his Weslaco surgery practice, Dr. Sander offers a variety of diagnostic and treatment options, including replacement surgery for hips, knees, and shoulders, bone fracture surgery, ACL reconstruction, and rotator cuff repair. Using innovative techniques, such as platelet-rich plasma injections, Dr. Sander can effectively treat conditions like arthritis and tendon injuries with long-term success.

He is a full time faculty member at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine.

He is affiliated with Harlingen Medical Center as well as Knapp Medical Center.

He is a Chairman of the department of Arthroscopic Surgery at that University.
